Plastic Oil Pipes

Plastic Oil lines

Plastic oil pipes are one way of overcoming some of the problems associated with lengthy copper pipe runs and due to their ease of installation their use is increasing.

There is no objection with their use with an Aga installation, but the following points must be borne in mind.

  • The plastic pipe must be of a material specifically designated for Kerosene fuel and be OFCERT approved.
  • They must be laid underground in such a manner so as to avoid being prone to accidental damage.
  • They should be laid as level as possible so as to avoid the potential for air locking.
  • Due to fire risk, they must not rise above ground level or otherwise be exposed. A fire resistant protective sleeve is currently under development, which it is hoped to be made commercially available during 2002.
  • Joints to the copper pipe underground, must be accessible.
  • They must not be used inside a building.

OFTEC have produced a free technical information sheet T134 " Installing pipes underground", also viewable for downloading on their web site www.oftec.org
