Aga Oil Cookers. --- Standardisation

From the beginning of May, new production oil cookers will incorporate a number of important changes, so as to standardise the oil cooker in line with gas models.

These modifications will also include some changes previously requested by Aga engineers and can be summarised as follows.

  • Burner Housing.
Now of sheet metal rather than cast iron, using normal burner inner door, but with modified door retaining brackets. Increase in depth.
  • Burner Chamber (ashpit)
Same as for gas cookers. The two special insulating washers between the housing and the chamber are now dispensed with.
  • Outer Barrel Sealing Ring
An additional part for oil cookers. This stainless steel plate is used to help seal the outer barrel to the burner chamber (ashpit), the same as used on gas cookers, see fig.1.

  • Heat conducting Plate.
Same as for gas cookers and using the clamp as shown above in fig.2
  • Burner Support Plate
Dimensions altered. Now shorter, front to back, to accommodate the redesigned housing.
  • Roasting, Baking & Simmering ovens
    Same as for gas cookers
  • Simmering oven door lining
Deep lining is now to be used on both roasting and simmering oven doors. Narrow lining only used on hotcupboard.
  • Heat Indicator
Gas type indicator now standard to oil cookers.
  • Thermostat
A new Diamond H thermostat replaces the Ranco type, having a shorter sensing phial. A guide tube is fitted through to the top oven allowing the thermostat to be easily replaced, in the same way as gas models. The current oil thermostat operating knob is retained.
The guide tube should be left unblocked.
A new thermostat phial support plate is used in the top oven, common to both gas and oil models and having two phial clips. The right hand clip can be fitted in one of two positions, dependent on fuel model and as shown below.
